Gurpurab 2026: Guru Nanak Wall Art for the Home and as Gifts

Gurpurab, the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, falls on Tuesday 24 November 2026. It is one of the most important days in the Sikh calendar and is marked on the full moon of the month of Kartik.

How Gurpurab is celebrated

Guru Nanak was born in 1469 in Talwandi, now Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. In the days before Gurpurab, many gurdwaras hold an Akhand Path, a continuous 48-hour reading of the Guru Granth Sahib that finishes on the morning of the day. There is usually a Nagar Kirtan procession, the gurdwara is lit up, and langar is served to everyone who comes.

Many families also use the occasion to bring something new into the home: a fresh picture for the living room, or a gift for parents and grandparents.

Guru Nanak wall art ideas

• A portrait of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Our Guru Nanak wall art pairs his portrait with gold Ek Onkar calligraphy and warm sunrise colours. It works well as the main picture above a sofa or in a prayer room.
• Ek Onkar on its own. Ek Onkar, "there is one creator", opens the Mool Mantar. A single Ek Onkar canvas suits a hallway or a smaller wall.
• The Khanda. For a bolder look, a Khanda canvas on a marble or watercolour background goes with modern rooms.
• The Golden Temple. Harmandir Sahib at night or at sunrise is a popular choice for a large living-room wall. See our Golden Temple wall art.

Choosing a size

Measure the wall first. Above a sofa, aim for a canvas about two-thirds of the sofa's width. For a hallway or bedroom, a square canvas of 20 to 24 inches is usually enough. Our guide on how to hang a canvas covers fixings and height.

Order in time for Gurpurab

Every canvas is printed on 100% cotton and hand-stretched over a 38mm frame in our Birmingham workshop. To have it by Gurpurab, order by Tuesday 10 November. See the full range of Sikh wall art.
